A Lasting Power Of Attorney

Losing a basic family income can be devastating. One of the things you can do to ease your family’s problems is to write a will – perhaps you already have.

It’s always a good idea to make sure that your will is valid and up to date. You can search for the best Solicitors in Bexleyheath online.

But what happens if you are involved in an accident or become the victim of a disease that causes not your death but the loss of your ability to act? You can leave your family with significant practical and financial problems while they also have emotional difficulties and struggles to deal with.

All of this can be avoided if, in good health and with common sense, you hire a lawyer to produce an unlimited power of attorney (LPA). Today, LPA can be just as important as a will.

What is an unlimited power of attorney?

1. LPA replaces the simplified permanent power of attorney on October 1, 2007, and is significantly more complex. Existing power of attorney (i.e. issued before 1 October 2007) remains in effect.

2. You have complete freedom in choosing a lawyer, even if the attorney must be over 18 years of age and not bankrupt or mentally disabled.

3. Your attorney may only be authorized to take care of your money and property, or you may allow them to make decisions on other non-financial matters, including where you live or the type of treatment you will receive.

4. You must sign your LPA when you are healthy and mentally fit – this can apply before and after you are unable to mind your own business.
