1. Clean the pallets before you recycle them. Remove any dirt, dust, or debris with a vacuum cleaner or a brush. If the pallets have paint or other flammable materials on them, remove them first.

2. Use a chop saw to cut the pallets into lumber pieces that are at least 3 inches (7.6 cm) wide by 4 inches (10.2 cm) wide by 8 inches (20.3 cm) long. Make sure the cuts are square and consistent across the board so the wood will join together even when you’re assembling the new board.

3. Stack the lumber pieces on top of one another so they form a solid block. Then use a chisel or saw to cut off any excess wood around the edges of the block.

4. Assemble the new board by screwing together the edges of the blocks of wood with screws or nails.
