The Company has assembled a team of industry experts who are recognized leaders in their professions. Management is backed by a committed board of directors, expert advisors and consultants, providing a broad range of technical, financial and bioenergy industry skills to lead the Company through the development stage to production of biodiesel and expansion within the bioenergy industry.
Senior Management

Doug is responsible for the overall strategic planning, business development, project viability, corporate finance, legal affairs and management of the Company. He is a Company founder, acting as an advisor to Ian Thomson since 2002, prior to full time engagement with Canadian Bioenergy in May 2005. Doug has a range of senior management and board governance experience in public, private and not-for-profit enterprises.
Doug is Vice-Chairman of the Canadian Renewable Fuels Association and a former Director of the Canola Council of Canada. He is a registered Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.), a Fellow of the Geological Association of Canada (FGAC), and a LEED Accredited Professional (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). Prior to Canadian Bioenergy, Doug founded and was the former President of TelSoft Mobile Data Inc. (now MDSI Mobile Data Solutions Inc.), which, through strategic alliances and acquisitions, became a global leader in its industry.
Ian directs Canadian Bioenergy's policy and regulatory affairs, and supports the work of industry associations provincially and federally. As a Company founder, Ian led Canadian Bioenergy's fuel operations business from its inception through early 2008, and has represented the Company and industry in numerous fleet trials and consultations with government and the petroleum industry. Ian is a leader in the Canadian biodiesel industry and his pioneering efforts contributed to the development of federal and provincial biofuel regulations and programs and the establishment of the BioFleet program in BC and Alberta.
Ian has 15 years of strategic consulting experience to organizations such as Cargill, Chevron, Duke Energy, PetroCanada, and United Technologies. He has also played a strategic role in a number of community, ENGO and private sector sustainability and conservation initiatives in Canada and the US. These include complex international multi-stakeholder processes with the Canadian Boreal Trust and Oceans Blue Foundation, and community engagements with The Natural Step where he was a catalyst of a globally recognized community project. Ian is a former Chartered Accountant and the President of the Alberta Biodiesel Association and a Director of LifeSciences BC.
Doug heads up the Company's finance, tax, administration, and information technology management functions. Doug is primarily responsible for financial modeling, financial oversight, tax planning and corporate finance. Doug joined the Company's founder's team in January 2006. He is a Chartered Accountant, with 26 years of business experience ranging from start-up companies to senior financial executive roles of publicly listed companies. Doug has served in executive positions with four high growth companies, prior to which he had 12 years of client service experience with KPMG, LLP.
Barb is responsible for oversight of the Company's project development business unit, as well as marketing and fuel operations activities. As a member of the Company's senior executive management team, she is actively involved in strategic planning and leads agriculture-related activities and human resource development.
Barb joined Canadian Bioenergy in August 2007, after serving five years as President of the Canola Council of Canada. Previously, she was President and CEO of Durafibre Inc., an agriculture biomass processing business that supplied natural flax fibres to the automotive and pulp and paper sectors, and has also held executive positions within Cargill Limited, the Government of Saskatchewan, and Western Canadian Wheat Growers Association.
Stewart is responsible for the Company's commercial development activity including the introduction of new and improved product offerings. Stewart has a PhD in Physical Organic Chemistry from the University of Alberta and an MBA in Entrepreneurship and Venture Development from the University of Calgary.
Prior to joining Canadian Bioenergy, Stewart consulted to the plant biotechnology industry and government funding agencies on the commercial utility and processing of crops with new traits. Stewart has experience as an oilseed breeder with AAFC Saskatoon Research Station and as an executive in canola processing with United Oilseeds in Lloydminster (now ADM) and Canbra Foods in Lethbridge.
Andrew is responsible for supporting Canadian Bioenergy's project development activities through the provision of engineering and project reporting expertise. He has a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Alberta and more than twenty years experience in the Canadian and international oil, gas and petrochemical industries. His specialties include renewable and alternative fuels, heavy oil and refining, gas processing and liquid recovery, methanol and ammonia, as well as ethylene and derivatives production design and engineering.
From 1995 through 2008, Andrew worked as a principal engineer, conducting and leading process engineering projects for KemeX Ltd. Andrew has also worked at the University of Alberta where he undertook doctoral research in Membrane Reactors for HC-Oxygen Reactions, and for Novacor Chemicals (now Nova Chemicals) as a process engineer in the Engineering and Construction Services Department.
Adam is responsible for the Company's market development activities, including managing supply relationships with petroleum companies and heavy-industry end users in preparation for federal and provincial mandates. Adam is a Company founder and since its inception led the transition of Canada's largest early adopter fleets to biodiesel. He is currently active in developing the company's biomass to energy projects.
Adam is a former member of the Sustainable Communities Group at the Pembina Institute for Appropriate Development and has worked as a research analyst with the Sustainable Development Research Initiative at University of British Columbia's Institute for Resources Environment and Sustainability (SDRI). Adam has been engaged on sustainability research and consulting projects with organizations including BC Hydro, Natural Resources Canada and the National Research Council Canada, and is currently a member of the Bioenergy and Bioproducts Advisory Council at LifeSciences British Columbia.
Board of Directors
The board of directors is comprised of two management representatives, Doug Hooper and Ian Thomson, and one independent member. Doug Hooper is board Chair and Doug Keast holds the office of Corporate Secretary. Additional board members will be selected as the Company expands its operations and candidates are nominated that will provide significant value to the Company's initiatives.

Ross has experience in urban planning, land development and a wide range of financial and business activities. Ross was the managing director of La Costa Ranch project in California, a 3,000-acre mixed-use land development project. Currently, Ross is president of Clandonald Holdings Ltd., a private securities investment company. He is also the owner of Nova Capital Ltd., a private equity investment company active in renewable energy projects and real estate development.
Advisory Board
Canadian Bioenergy has engaged advisors to assist with technical and operations expertise in renewable fuels and energy, bioenergy technology, distribution, climate change policy, finance, marketing, land development, and diesel fleet technology.
